It’s funny, I’m a 32-year old man who’s been indulging in cannabis for roughly 15 years, and I’m still learning new things about this plant. From everything to its medicinal benefits all the way to how it grows, there’s still so much left to learn. But other from the things I just mentioned, there’s some bizarre facts I recently uncovered that I couldn’t resist sharing.
Here’s 6 marijuana facts that will blow your mind:
1. Marijuana is supposedly legal in North Korea
No one seemed to have a problem with us buying the stuff, and so we decided to put it to the ultimate test: purchasing papers from another stall before rolling up and lighting comically oversized joints right there in the middle of the crowded market,” Richter wrote. “Bizarre as the situation was, it seemed a reasonably safe move … and with several hundred people already staring at us, we weren’t likely to feel any more paranoid than we already were.
2. Studies show that cannabis can improve lung health – cigarette smokers too
3. Overdosing on marijuana is utterly impossible
Lets face it, at one point or another you’ve probably thought you were having a marijuana overdose. But the truth of the matter is that its nearly impossible. According to a 1988 Drug Enforcement Administration brief by Judge Francis Young, a marijuana user would “theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response.” But if you were someone who could consume that much marijuana in less than 15 minutes, you’re getting an award versus an overdose.
4. Marijuana and beer are, surprisingly enough, botanical cousins
In an article published in Popular Science, hops and marijuana are pretty much the same when it comes to its organoleptic properties of taste and smell. “This is because Humulus lupulus (hops) and Cannabis sativa (marijuana) belong in the same botanical family called Cannabaceae. That’s why your favorite India pale ale might be reminding you of your other favorite indulgence,” reports Mic.
5. Marijuana helped the trapped Chilean miners through their horrifying ordeal
To pass the time and boost morale, 33 Chilean miners trapped in a San Jose mine in 2010 blazed it up, according to NYMag.
6. Tupac and California Kush all rolled up into one
In a report from the New York Daily Times, Tupac Shakur’s cremated ashes were mixed with California kush and then smoked by his former rap group, The Young Outlawz.
